Yes indeed the story itself was violent but let me point out that Meghan was not beaten or severly injured it was more like mental abuse, physical mistreatment that type of thing. The plot and writing was very well done and I liked it very much. The characters were very colorful author did a good job of making them appear realistic. I was at times uncomfortable I'll admit and would skip over some of the more violent degrading scenerios but it didn't stop me from staying up till 2am to complete it. I do not approve of any person being treated poorly in any way shape or form but by the same token was wanting someone to open up a can of whoop A#$ on Rolf the hero. I believe that the sex was not 100% concentual at all times IMHO. Why oh why didn't the author allow Meghan to be mentally stronger and rebuke his sexual advances leaving him frustrated and embarrassed. I wanted him so bad to suffer for his coldness and indifference and was somewhat appeased when he had to grovel at the end but alas it was brushed over no detail which I was wanting after all Meghan endured. It would have made for such good reading. I have to admit the villian was a surprise and took me completely off guard I was also sad to see some characters die at the end but it gave way to the success of the drama of it all. Don't read it if you are offended by any of this type of treatment it will only make you uncomfortable believe me I was cringing, humiliated, cried and down right depressed at times for the heroine. Any author that can get that out of their reader must be doing something right. I paid for this one and have no objections to having done so. Not one for historicals, but this book right here made me forget that silly notion. What can I say, intense, sexy, exciting and I could not stop reading. I LOVE alpha males, a-hole alphas even moreso. I would greatly have liked the female to make hero Grovel for months to try & make up for his horrendous wrong doing. IMO, there would be no forgiving, BUT this is fiction so I'll roll with the author on this one. Buy it people!!!
this story is the epitome of ANGST. I wanted to kick the H (loosely termed) butt for most of the book, and just cried for the h for the rest. Sophia Johnson takes her h thru the ringer but it makes for an emotional story and I like that. There is a HEA but it took a lot of work to get there
I was very disappointed in this story. If someone, no matter how long I knew them, treated me this way at the beginning of this book I sure wouldn't handfast with them! They would have to rape me! You can resist the sexual persuasions if you are angry enough. Nothing would convince me to trust Rolf and I would never forgive him for this deep of a betrayal! Although a well written book, there is no psychological common sense in Meghan's reactions to Rolf. Both characters disappointed me.
Although she has forbidden her to leave the keep, Meghan of Blackthorn cannot be contained. Meghan manages to steal away after dark with her horse, Storm, and her sparrowhawk, Simple. The three set out to hunt in the woods surrounding Blackthorn. Just as dawn breaks, Meghan feels as though she is being watched. And she is. Meghan tries to escape, but is captured by Rolf MacDaidh, the man Meghan had once secretly loved.
Rolf MacDaidh is known throughout the land as Lord Vengeance. To Rolf, Meghan represents a means to exact revenge on the man responsible for the death of his wife and child. Though Meghan's spirit and beauty tempts Rolf, she must remain his captive in order for him to have his revenge. While Rolf will share his body, he cannot share his heart.
I thought Rolf might very well break my heart into a million pieces. His anguish and burning desire for revenge almost cost him the love of his heroine and my love too. That Sophia Johnson could inspire such fierce emotion from her readers with Risk Everything speaks highly of her writing abilities. Risk Everything triggers fierce emotions and the end result makes every tear worth it!

I purchased this book in 2011, I don't remember reading Risking Everything before but I must have. I do know I did
not write a review. I just finished reading this book, again. I loved the story and the characters. I did not give it 5
stars because I was not too impressed with Rolf. Although he did suffer in the end. Sophia Johnson did a wonderful
job of blending the characters and keeping the story progressing. There was so many characters it was a little difficult
remembering them all and where they belonged. I loved this book! Now I must check my for other books by
Sophia Johnson and re-read them.
Although I read the reviews before buying and reading this book I was in for a huge shock. I truely was not prepared for the cruelty done. Meghan is a stong willed women but I found Rolf absolutely disgusting. Rape is not something that I find entertaining or the cruelty done in the name of "love". Rolf is a complete "eegit" as said by the author. I love that Meghan had a stong will that could not be broke but as the story went on and Alisa enters I feel as though Meghans character counter acted as to the previous chapters.
The only way I would recommend this book is if you don't mind public hummilation, or rape,or women being told they are a mans pocession. I understand that this a historical and it is probably spot on to what women were treated but when I buy a book to steal away for a few hours from real life this is not what I had in mind.
Out of the three books, this is by far the best and my favorite. You could actually feel Rolf's hatred in the beginning, then you felt the love he had for Meghan seep through...He deserves the white hair and a hell of a lot more. And, I felt his regret deep for he will be a better man now, in the end.
This was truly a great story, I recommend it, it could be read as a stand-a-lone but, to get the FULL picture, with the other characters in the story (mystic Welshman and berserker) you will want to read the previous stories Always Mine and Midnight's Bride.
